The best dumpster size depends on how much material you have, what you’re throwing away, and how heavy it is.
It’s usually better to have a little extra room than to order something too small and need another dumpster.
Here’s a simple breakdown:
A 10-yard dumpster is a good fit when you have more than regular household trash but don’t need a large container.
Good for:
Small garage cleanouts
Basement or attic cleanouts
Small remodeling projects
Flooring removal
Household clutter
Small landscaping projects
Smaller amounts of construction debris
Best choice when:
You have a smaller project or limited driveway space
and don’t expect a large amount of bulky material.

The 15-yard dumpster gives you more capacity without jumping all the way to a larger container.
It’s a great middle-ground option for homeowners, landlords, contractors and property managers.
Good for:
Home cleanouts
Garage cleanouts
Moving cleanouts
Furniture and household items
Kitchen or bathroom renovations
Flooring and remodeling debris
Rental-property cleanouts
Smaller contractor projects
Best choice when:
You have a moderate amount of material and want enough
space without ordering more dumpster than you need.

A 20-yard dumpster is one of the most versatile options for larger residential projects.
It gives you enough space for bulky household items and larger amounts of debris without requiring an oversized commercial container.
Good for:
Whole-house cleanouts
Estate cleanouts
Large garage or basement cleanouts
Moving and downsizing
Furniture removal
Kitchen renovations
Bathroom renovations
Flooring projects
Construction and remodeling debris
Contractor projects
Best choice when:
You have bulky items, a larger cleanout, or a renovation
where the amount of debris may add up quickly.

Make your dumpster rental easier to use and ready for pickup with a few simple guidelines:
- Choose a suitable location. Plan for a firm, level surface with clear truck access. Keep the delivery and pickup area free of vehicles, low branches, and overhead obstructions. We’ll confirm placement when scheduling your rental.
- Load through the walk-in door. Use the dumpster’s rear door to carry in bulky items before filling the area around it. Keep the doorway clear so it can close securely.
- Distribute weight evenly. Place heavier items low and spread them across the container. Stay within any loading limits provided for your rental.
- Keep everything below the fill line. Materials must remain below the marked fill line or top edge, whichever is lower. Nothing should hang over the sides or prevent the door from closing.
- Leave room for safe pickup. Keep truck access clear. Your load must fit securely inside the dumpster so it can be covered and transported safely. Excess material may need to be removed before pickup.

Before loading your DUMPT dumpster, check for items that require separate recycling or special handling. Massachusetts waste bans and disposal-facility rules affect what can go in a standard dumpster.
Items requiring advance approval and special pricing include:
- Mattresses and box springs
- Tires
- Televisions and computer monitors
- Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners
- Other large appliances
Special disposal fees range from $50–$175 per item we approve, depending on the item and handling required. These fees are additional to your rental price. Contact us for the exact charge and loading instructions before placing any of these items in your dumpster.
Other materials requiring separate arrangements include:
- Clothing, bedding, and other textiles
- Leaves, grass, and other yard waste
- Recyclable paper, cardboard, bottles, and cans
- Scrap metal, wood, and clean gypsum wallboard
- Concrete, brick, asphalt, and dirt—phone orders and a special container are required

Call us to discuss the appropriate container, recycling options, and pricing.
Do not put these materials in your dumpster:
- Asbestos or suspected asbestos-containing materials
- Liquid paint, solvents, chemicals, oil, fuel, or other liquids
- Batteries, propane tanks, or pressurized cylinders
- Fluorescent bulbs or mercury-containing items
